About Calmer Teens

Helping Families Navigate School Anxiety With Calm, Clarity, and Specialist Support

Calmer Teens was created to support young people experiencing school anxiety, emotionally-based school avoidance, and school refusal; and to help parents feel less alone while navigating it.

We understand how quickly anxiety can begin to affect everyday life. What may start as worry, overwhelm, or emotional exhaustion can gradually impact school attendance, confidence, friendships, family life, and a young person’s sense of safety in the world.

For parents, it can feel relentless.
Trying to support your child while managing school pressures, emotional outbursts, avoidance, and uncertainty can leave families feeling overwhelmed and stuck.

Calmer Teens exists to provide a calmer, more supportive way forward.

At Calmer Teens, we believe anxiety is not something a young person should simply be expected to “push through.”

When a teen feels overwhelmed, their nervous system can become stuck in patterns of fear, avoidance, panic, or emotional shutdown. This can make everyday situations , especially school, feel genuinely difficult to manage.

Our Approach

The Calmer Teens approach focuses on helping young people:

  • feel emotionally safer

  • better understand their emotions

  • develop practical coping strategies

  • build emotional resilience

  • regain confidence gradually and sustainably

Support is tailored to the individual young person and designed to feel supportive, engaging, and pressure-free. Rather than focusing heavily on labels or long conversations about problems, we focus on helping teens move forward with practical tools, emotional support, and nervous-system calming approaches that help them feel more in control again.

Support for the Whole Family

School anxiety rarely affects just the young person alone. Parents often carry a huge emotional load while trying to support their teen, navigate school systems, and make difficult decisions about what to do next.

That’s why parent support is an important part of the Calmer Teens approach.

We aim to help families feel:

- calmer

- more informed

- more supported

- more confident in the steps they are taking

Because when parents feel more regulated and supported themselves, it can positively influence the whole family dynamic.

Calmer Teens was founded by Sarah Hayes, a specialist in supporting young people and their families experiencing anxiety and school-related emotional difficulties.

Sarah has a background in psychology and advanced training in child and adolescent hypnotherapy, mindset approaches, and emotional wellbeing support. She has worked with many families navigating school anxiety, emotionally-based school avoidance, and confidence challenges. Her approach is calm, compassionate, and practical, helping young people feel understood without pressure or judgement.

Sarah is passionate about helping teens recognise that anxiety does not have to define who they are or limit what they are capable of moving towards.
